The Akuapim South Municipal District is a district of Ghana in the Eastern Region. It was upgraded from an ordinary district to a municipality in February 2008. Akuapim South Municipality lies in the Southeastern part of the Eastern region. It borders Suhum-Kraboa Coaltar in the northwest, Ga West Municipality in the southeast, and Akuapim North District in the northeast. It covers an area of 440 km2 and has a population of 131,031 with a growth rate of 1.4%. It has an undulating topography with two main ecological zones namely the moist semi-deciduous forest and coastal savannah grassland. The municipality consists of six sub-districts: Nsawam, Adoagyiri, Pokrom, Pakro/ Dago, Pampanso and Aburi – with Nsawam. being the district capital. Residents of the district depend on the river Densu for water supply; 30% of the population depends on pipe-borne water treated by the Ghana Water Company at the municipal water treatment plant.
